I greatly appreciate this article. I've come to calling the Republicans who claim they are fighting the "wokeness" the anti, anti woke party. They claim they are fighting for freedom for everyone while removing freedoms. It's a bait and switch. DeSantis is a perfect example, banning books, DEI, Disney you name it. Like you said it's right out of Hitlers Mein Kampf. And it scares the living crap out of me. Please keep up this necessary work
One thing though… being x doesn’t “make” you happy, happiness comes from fully embracing your self if you “are” x, but doesn’t confirm to what’s considered normal and would scare you shitless if you see what being x in the open entails… exactly what makes it fucking crazy to think it’s a choice. It’s not a matter of finding the x that “makes” you happy, it’s a matter of life and death to fully embrace being x… ( with x being whatever )
"happiness comes from fully embracing your self if you “are”... you can only know what you "are" by embracing yourself, from looking inward with honesty and accepting yourself

I think this is one of the best breakdowns of what has been happening that I have seen, however I don’t agree with the cartoon at the bottom for multiple reasons. Otherwise great stuff!
I'm not a huge fan of political correctness either and I would never proscribe the use of any particular word. However, words have power and the use of certain words carry a connotation, a subtext, that has a subtle and insidious influence. In that sense, i.e. if it makes us stop and think about the way we use language and how it often has misogynistic or racist undertones, I would say political correctness isn't all bad.
As for the whole LGBTQ+ thing, I've never really understood it. What business of anyone's is their sexuality? The only time it's of any concern is if you're attracted to someone and would like to start a relationship with them. Then it's relevant, otherwise what someone gets up to in the privacy of their own home is no one's concern with one exception: if it harms anyone. It really is ironic that the GOP claim to be the party of freedom & freedom of choice when they're the ones who want to curtail and restrict those freedoms. What they really are is the party of freedom to be like them, to share their opinions and views. It would be a sad and joyless world of they had their way, we'd all be zombie clones. There would be no art, no music and no fun (eventually, once they've eradicated everyone different from them in sure they'd even make laughter illegal). All those things, the new, creative and innovative depend on our differences. We should celebrate our diversity, it lies at the root of all that's good about us.
PS If I didn't make it clear, I object to excessive political correctness as much as anyone. What I sympathize with is if someone points out, for example that a word like chairman has sexist undertones. You might say that the ‘man’ element of the word means man in its more generic sense of human, but that's problematic in itself (I've just noticed that human also includes ‘man’, but I've never heard anyone advocating using ‘huperson’. That's part of the problem: when it's excessive it becomes ludicrous and ridiculous. Nevertheless, the point is still a valid one.
I also wanted to leave a brief comment about being woke or not. Woke just means being aware, so all those anti-woke people are basically saying that they want people to be unaware, to be ignorant. I think that is what they actually want but they'd never put it in such blatant terms. When you do it becomes unpalatable and obvious that they'd just like to treat everyone like a mushroom: keep them in the dark and fed them bullshit! Excuse the old joke and language 😊.
It's quite long (1hr 11') but I found it very interesting, engaging and compelling; at no point did I feel that time was dragging or tempted to skip any of it. It was part of the HumanistsUK 2019 Voltaire lectures. Adam Rutherford is a geneticist and ‘science popularizer’ who presents a number of BBC Radio 4 programmes, most notably ‘Inside Science’ which is also broadcast on the BBC's World Service. He also co-presents ‘The Curious Cases of Rutherford and Fry’ with mathematician Hannah Fry. If you want to know more about him here's a link to his Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam_Rutherford?wprov=sfla1
The Rutherford lecture went very quickly and was quite enlightening as well as entertaining. The isopoint being at about 1500 BC was eye opening. And his willingness to point out the limitations of the data sets that support so many ideas while keeping rigidly inconclusive that the ideas were not proven wrong or right. Great stuff.
Idiots. My coworker in 1981 was/is trans. I loved him and his family. People are dumb. "Never discount stupidity as a reason" was one of my dad's stellar sayings. He was right. Oh and the other thing was "don't lie (commission AND omission--or to yourself--the worst), cheat, or steal" Love you and miss you, Dad.
I'm pushing it real Hard you Guys! Getting the Word Out via Substack, Threads etc. for the Win in November 💋💯👍💙🌊🌊🌊 and Thanks, you are all Rock Stars!!
I just wish that social media companies were able to identify and label some of the Russian troll accounts.
Also, thank you for the work you're doing.
Thanks for the feedback James!

Typical fascist propaganda: Orange Hitler claims if he doesn't get elected, liberals will exterminate Republicans.
