I wish I didn’t agree with your prediction, but I do. Trump’s win in 2016 was really the end.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the coup and these years of Trump’s portrayal as the martyred leader were a part of the original plot. The last 3+ years of Trump’s shadow presidency have done more to empower his dictatorship than if he had just won a 2nd term in 2020.
To have Trump lose, fight his way back, and then rule from the outside in has made him the mythical resurrected victim king. Sorry for the religious metaphors, but they are key to the strategy.
The cultural and societal impositions that are coming if Trump succeeds will be death blows to freedoms that most consider as essential to life as we know it.
And unfortunately a win for Trump doesn’t preclude violence, cruelty will not only be the point, it will be the new rule of law. Trial by virtual fire will the experiential reality for any population group defined as “marginal”.
I’m 70 and know I’ll be considered as a cost in the cost/benefit analysis that will sweep through. Social Security and Medicare will not be phased out, they will be there one day and gone the next.
Shock and Awe will be the method to cower any resistance and quickly disable millions. Mini-Donald Rumsfelds will be ensconced in government jobs—cult member may be the only job requirement.
You can see I’ve been preparing myself for the worst, unfortunately expecting the best is getting harder and harder.
Having a jury convict Hunter Biden is not a sign that the institutions are “holding”. It means that perspective and justice are out of balance. In a country awash with guns and addiction, where guns are revered and addiction is a “moral failing”, I don’t see much hope.

The Russians have had their asset on the inside for longer than we know. Trump Tower Moscow was hook and all it took to reel Trump into Putin’s boat.
I remember during the Mueller investigation that Michael Cohen had at one point said that he had been at meetings about the Moscow tower deal 3 times, later in testimony, he corrected that statement and said it was at least 10 times.
