I think this analysis is wrong only in the position that the Civil War ended.

My position is that the Civil War never ended. The armed conflict ended but the south never stopped fighting. The south has been running a cold war campaign ever since. (The south will rise again, The war of northern aggression, the daughters of the confederacy and moms 4 liberty, etc.)

This cold war campaign has spread throughout the US (see Indiana and Ohio as examples) and is the foundation of the republican party.

Yeah, I think you’re right.

I agree with you. In fact I've been saying this for years now myself. Once you take this perspective, you realize that all of the oppression, the exclusion, the incarceration system, the war on labor, are all part and parcel of the same long game.

I agree. We should have not appeased them. We are such a racist country because of that.

Nora M's avatar

I agree. The rifles were put down but, like Trump, they never accepted their defeat or were held responsible for their rebellion. They found ways to continue slavery by other means.

Those within and around MAGA have never given up the dream of resurrecting the Confederacy after it was defeated in the first Civil War, and over the past 150 years or so, there are many within MAGA & white supremacist circles who are planning for and are eager to fight the Civil War again, because they honestly believe they’ll have a second chance to defeat those who oppose them.

I wonder what the author of “Civil War Memory” would think of this.

No, seriously, I wanna hear their two cents on this.

Agree! I am in red AL, and a Yankee as well. Boy, do I see it!!!

I keep coming back to this very smart answer. Each time there's more clarity and agreement.

Disturbing piece this morning ☕ I don't want to believe if trump supporters do wage Civil war that they in anyway could win?! They'd be wasting their time, money and Life, for someone who could care Less about them. It's Pitiful really.Thank You for writing this morning ☕ and will reStack ASAP 💯👍🇺🇸💙🌊🌊🌊🌊

One of his supporters, an elderly woman will do nine years for Trump. I hope she breaks away from the cult and speaks out. As of today, she is still acting like an entitled trumper.

Trump’s minions have powerful forces behind them. Heritage foundation, Federalist society, Elon Musk, Ginny Thomas et. al.

It’s true and these behind the scenes groups are dangerously infiltrating the government.

The CIA is tasked with monitoring communication with our enemies from within the US to the spies.

WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T THEY GIVEN US TRANSCRIPTS OF PRESIDENT TREASON TRAILER TRASH’S PRIVATE CONVERSATIONS WITH VLADIMIR PUTIN

❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓❓

Hmmm. 🤔

This is why we need Kamala.

Velociraver's avatar

Kamala?? You think Putin would take Kamala seriously? Or ANY world leader, after her abysmal performance as VP?

Trump has no choice to kiss up to Putin an accept his terms because YOU HAVE LOST THE WAR. Plain and simple..the victor sets the terms. Every US president since Clinton has botched this file, doubled down, and pushed NATO expansion to Russia's front door. Well, now you have to pay for your hubris, so suck it up 🤷‍♂️

I knew before seeing this that civil war is possible. I am semi-retired, I have the time and curiosity to learn what is truly happening in our country. As I try to convey the message, I’m met with so much resistance. I think so many Americans believe it cannot happen here. This includes my friends and family whether they are democratic or republican. Thank you, the TED talk alone is convincing. I’m not giving up.

I believe it. They couldn't be any clearer about their intentions. They've shown us what they're capable of and continue to make threats of violence daily. Anyone who thinks it can't happen here is living in a fantasy.

Wow! What a hard choice really 🤷🏻 I vote for Harris and get a civil war or I vote for Trump and get World War Three! Very difficult times!

AG's avatar

Vote for Harris and get social media to change the algorithm, dilute the chance of civil war.

Jaime Ramirez's avatar

Vote for Trump & you get oppression & likely civil war as a result. You also lose your democratic rights. The only rational choice is Kamala.

Robert Riley's avatar

Trump will dismantle the democracy!

Robert Riley's avatar

I’d prefer that 🤷🏻

Or don't vote at all and stop validating the two party system, which is a trap.

Donnie the bigtime playboy in 1970's, 80s, 90s, at least 100, 200 chicks so just statistically surely it's 99.9% there were accidental babies or abortions. Where are they?Come forward, ladies, your country needs you to show us your baby or your hospital record with Donnie's credit card. Who knows names of the fixers he used to buy off such people? What will the bible thumpers say?

I have a feeling that what we may see would be similar to what happened in the late sixties and early seventies. After Nixon's victory, some of the more extreme members of the anti-war movement formed the Weather Underground which tried to wage war against the Federal Government. I suspect that some MAGA extremists will attempt to do something similar.

Good Christ Almighty. I'm too old for this crap. I need a secret weapon. Like a (well, if I tell you, it won't be secret, will it?) invisible, irresistible, and cheeseburger with ketchup flavored something. Delivered with a MAGA label. BTW, I have a rich fantasy life.

Even the Trump supporters (most of the TV educated Americans ones) want to elect an American president - not a different form of government. That's not on the agenda! Rules of Project 2025 need to go through Congress one issue at a time. No one is expecting to get a used-car salesman, again.

We’ve been in a civil war forever. It’s just recently that we haven’t been actively shooting. That is likely to change. Saddle Up is the next step. How soon it’s Ride’m Out is anyone’s guess. It’s looking like it’s inevitable, depending on the Project 2025 rollout.

We’ve been there since January 6th, 2021. Just because there are no canons, and caissons doesn’t mean a worry isn’t being fought in the 21st century.

Barbara Walter's voice needs to be amplified. She has a good grasp of what's occurring in America today & how to avoid the worst consequences. Maybe Harris should find a key position in her administration to amplify her inspirational voice.

Michael Andreini's avatar

Yeah, when I heard her, I checked out Democratic nations by ranking. The USA sucks. We’re not even categorized as a working democracy!

L Volkoff's avatar

No other Democracy ever copied our constitutional system and with good reason. It was built for paralysis, not action. Unfortunately that paralysis keeps us from correcting the system as well.

It will all be acts of terrorism and the acts of violence will come from one side.

Not hard to guess which side.
